What was your primary active style according to DiSC? Do you agree?
According to the DiSC personality system profile, my personality style is S and I. S or “steadiness” is my primary style, while I or “influencing” is my secondary style. I agree with this result because I believe I have the majority of the characteristics of S, and many of the characteristics of I. The characteristics of S in which I resonate with are good listener, team player, possessive, steady, understanding, and friendly. When it comes to the “influencing” style, I believe I am enthusiastic, trusting, optimistic, talkative, and emotional.
What was your DiSC Pattern Name? What are your strengths and weaknesses in communication and leadership?
My DiSC pattern name is Advisor. My strengths include approaching people with warmth, sympathy, and understanding, as well as having a “casual sense of poise” in social situations. In addition, I am a good listener and do not force my own opinions or ideas on others. I have no problem communicating with people (partly because I feel it avoids unnecessary conflict). I am an instinctive team players who work best in a supportive environment. Although I am a team player, I believe that I personally can become a leader if I feel it is necessary.
One of my weaknesses include avoiding conflict and being overly flexible. In some cases, I would rather avoid conflict than work to a resolution. In addition, I can take criticism personally and be overly tolerant or patient. Although I put 100% of myself into everything I commit to, I need praise for a job well done.
Did anything surprise you about your primary style or pattern? What was it? Why did this surprise you?
Nothing about my primary personality style surprised me. The only thing I found questionable was “predictability” under my general characteristics. In some situations, I believe this to be true. I love having a routine and can be irked when it is disturbed. On the other hand, I do not believe my personality is predictable. I believe this has to do with my sense of humor.
How is this information going to make you a better leader, teammate or communicator?
Not that I know my strengths and weaknesses, I will be able to exercise my strengths and work on my weaknesses. Knowing I can work well with others and have a team mentality can be extremely useful! Once I have my role within a team, I know what I need to do to help my team succeed and can support others in their roles. In addition, my determination and reliability can help my team function best. When it comes to communication, the DiSC personality system has confirmed my communication skills and I now feel confident in using them.
How might knowing your teammates DiSC profile enable you to “love your employees” as recommended by Michael Fuller?
Knowing my teammates DiSC profile can help me to “love my employees” because I can truly appreciate them and their abilities. In addition, knowing their strengths and weaknesses can be extremely beneficial. Now we can tailor our projects to everyone’s strengths instead of their weaknesses. Not only will this make the team operate most effectively, but it will keep all of the team members happy, motivated, inspired, and satisfied.

Hi Olivia,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog to be very aesthetically pleasing with the overall cover scheme as well as the entertaining gifs. Many of them related to real life events as well as tied into your writing which helped me be engaged in the reading. Even though you are a type S and I am a type I , I found several similarities in our personalities. The biggest connection i got out of your reading though was our neglect to engage in conflict. Conflict is something I truly want to avoid because it only causes separation in friendships and future problems. As a follow up question towards your article what are some tangible goals or objectives you can set for you team that would tailor to their strengths and weaknesses?
Hi Nico,
DeleteThanks for reading my blog post. I'm glad you liked my GIFs! In response to your question, I think a team can use their strengths effectively by dividing and conquering. If the work is divided accordingly, it is clear who is responsible for what and the workload is not as overwhelming. Once the work is divided, roles can be determined based on the group member’s personality styles and strengths.
Hi Olivia!
ReplyDeleteYour blog was very enjoyable to read and was overall very engaging. I enjoy the implementation of the gifs throughout, because it did not distract from the content; it added to it. I found it interesting that you said that your predictability is not necessarily a steady trait you have; however, right before that you talk about how you need organization and order. It seems counterintuitive to then say that you do not typically desire routine. I can relate to this feeling though. When reviewing my results there were several things that I was taken a back by, even though at my core, I knew them to be true. In terms of being a leader and moving forward, would you be able to put this defense down and accept the nature of your being to become a more effective leader?
Hi Montana,
DeleteThank you for your feedback! I think being organized and having a routine is both a pro and a con when it comes to being a leader. On one hand, it can help me accomplish things faster and stay on top of things. On the other hand, it is important to be flexible and open to change as a leader. Maintaining this balance could be a challenge for me, but I do see the benefits of letting go of organization and order to be an effective leader.
Olivia,
ReplyDeleteNice blog post with a very impressive incorporation of GIFs! Like you, I can take criticism personally and be overly tolerant of bad behavior. How have you addressed this area? Have you had much success with it?
